AN old minibus nicknamed Marvin will transport a set of charity champions through one of Europe’s most little known nations.

Mathew Edwards, from Cinnamon Brow, is setting off on the adventure of a lifetime along with his two friends, Alex Allen, aged 38, and Ivan Rogan, aged 35 from Cheshire.

On Friday they leave for Tirana, Albania’s capital city.

The trip, which is entirely self-funded, will consist of the trio spending nine days travelling in a tired minibus which they have nicknamed ‘Marvin.’ Upon arrival, the men will be taking disadvantaged children on outdoor excursions in the Albanian mountains.

The 35-year-old said: “The sponsorship we raise from family, friends and colleagues is being given directly to the British Red Cross to support the fantastic work they do, and we’ve already raised £670!”

Clare McManmon, senior community fundraiser with the British Red Cross, added: “This challenge is a really fantastic start to our 2014 Red Cross Week.”
