A GOLDEN Padgate couple are preparing to celebrate 50 happy years of marriage today, Good Friday.
Dennis and Dorothy Miller, aged 71 and 70 respectively, were married in St Peter’s church, on Winwick Road, which no longer exists.
The wedding reception was then taken down the road to the Hawthorne Hotel Pub on Orford Lane where friends and family celebrated into the night.
After a short spell of saving after the big day, the happy couple went on their honeymoon to Blackpool in 1964.
Dorothy, a retired dinner lady from Oakwood Avenue Primary School, and Dennis, a retired local government worker, will now celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in Grappenhall this weekend.
In attendance will be the couple’s two sons, Andrew, aged 47, and Tim, aged 43, as well as their four grandchildren – Hannah, James, Harry and Oliver.
And their secret to a long and happy marriage?
“It’s simple – never go to bed on an argument!” Dennis insisted.
