IT is a charity that prides itself on helping some of the most vulnerable families in Warrington to stand on their own two feet.

But Home-Start Warrington, who is the Warrington Guardian’s charity of the year, is so much more than that, claims scheme manager Kate Griffiths.

The dedicated team are there to offer a helping hand when families need it most, a shoulder to cry on in times of need and a friendly face to share their problems with and offer invaluable support.

Over the last 15 years, Home-Start Warrington has trained more than 200 volunteers, supported more than 800 families and 2,100 children.

Kate, who has worked at the charity for eight years, said: “Working for a Home-Start gives a real sense of achievement and satisfaction.

“We reach some of the most vulnerable families who welcome us into their homes to give them that little bit of extra support they need and it is lovely to see the families flourish.

“All the staff work very hard and will always go that extra mile to achieve the best possible outcomes.”

Home-Start Warrington helps families tackle issues ranging from isolation, premature birth, multiple births and illness through to families struggling with drug abuse and domestic violence or those that just need that little bit of help and support to help them cope.

The team comprises of scheme manager Kate Griffiths, development officer Chris Murphy, office manager Steph Scully, family support co-ordinators Tracey Dean and Helen Fearon, outreach worker Rachel Richards, volunteer support and outreach worker Fay Matthews and finance admin assistant Leanne Smith.

From recruiting and training volunteers to providing advice on budgeting and routines for families, the eight-strong team work together to make sure the charity runs smoothly and, most importantly, effectively.

The team is also looking for its next set of parent volunteers to help make a real difference in the community.

The next volunteer training course starts on June 4 and runs for 8 weeks each Wednesday.
