GREEN-FINGERED youngsters from Burtonwood Primary School and St Paul of the Cross Primary School planted poppy seeds at Burtonwood Library to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

The commemorative garden is one of several dedicated sites in the borough to remember the servicemen and women who fought for their country.

The poppies are expected to be in bloom by late June to earlier July.

Council leader Terry O'Neill, who helped with the seed planting on Thursday, said it was 'an excellent way to commemorate the First World War'.
