MAKE sure your name is on the register of electors to be able to vote is the message from council chiefs.

Residents have until May 6 to register to vote in this year’s local and European parliament elections held on May 22.

A spokesman added: “If you are not on the electoral register it could also affect your credit rating which means you might not be able to apply for a credit card, loan or mortgage.

“If you have recently moved house you need to let electoral services know so they can update your details.”

So I was confirmed for another year on the electoral roll by WBC, yet my credit rating has dropped and now puts my plans to buy a house in jeapordy.

Equifax say its because of the change due to the changes to their automated system. Apparently it puts me into the 'lower end' of a grouping of people in similar circumstances. I smell bullcrap along the way somewhere.

Not saying by any means its WBC's fault, but merely being re-confirmed for another year can actually have a negative impact.

What have you been smoking - and does it usually cause paranoia and conspiracy theories?

You're right it is not WBC who is at fault. Your problem is between you and Equifax.

Nick: Never smoked a day in my life, nor will I.
Karlar: As I said, I was merely pointing out that Equifax's new automated system actually can degrade your rating when a local authority confirms you for another year. I am aware my issue is with Equifax and I'm fighting that fight.

This wasn't a WBC bashing.. just more of an informed thought.

It's all very well asking us to make sure we are on the electoral roll, but there is another equally important matter of the quality of those we elect. Many of the current crop are found wanting when it comes to 'integrity', 'trust', 'competence' and/or 'ability', as the Council's sad history will show. Many have been sleeping their posts for years, voting along party lines, collecting their stipends plus expenses; but contributing very little towards improving Warrington. They have become inured with inertia and muddle along instead of being proactive and diligent; choosing only to partially rouse themselves when elections threaten their comfortable existence.
