WORK on an extension to Walton Hall has been marked with the unveiling of a commemorative stone.

Mayor Clr Peter Carey was on hand on Friday to lay the stone.

Work started in November and is expected to be completed by early summer.

The new building is being constructed on the footprint of part of the original hall which was demolished in the 1970s.

Council chiefs say it has been designed to reflect the setting and to complement the existing grade II listed building. When finished, it will provide new public toilets for people enjoying the formal gardens, bowling facilities and crazy golf.

Other improvement works under way at the park include a new toilet and baby change facility being built near the entrance to the zoo and play areas.
