LIBERAL Democrat Clr Keith Gleave has voiced concerns over the planned Omega homes claiming that the development will cause extra traffic congestion in the area.

Clr Gleave (LD - Whittle Hall) said: “At a council meeting Labour patted themselves and developers on the back for providing a road through Omega. If they had listened to residents, as I have, they would have realised that the extra housing will add in excess of 2,000 more cars to our already severely congested roads.”

In August, it was announced 1,100 new homes had been earmarked to be built on the Omega land.

“There are already up to 800 heavy goods vehicle movements a day from the existing warehouse. The new developments will more than double this,” added Clr Gleave. “The original plan for Omega was no housing, so traffic could have been managed directly from the motorway.”
