AFTER a vital programme for victims of terrorism was saved at the eleventh hour, Colin and Wendy Parry met with the Prime Minister to discuss the future of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace.

The couple, who marked the 21st anniversary of their son Tim’s death last month following the 1993 IRA bombing on Bridge Street, headed to Downing Street on Monday and agreed with David Cameron that victims ‘need one Government point of contact’.

The Survivors for Peace programme has been working with victims and survivors of terror attacks in Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the last 12 years but was under threat after National Lottery cash dried up.

The Chancellor announced during last month’s Budget £150,000 would be handed to the cause to fund the programme for the next financial year with the Government calso ommitting itself to ‘finding a permanent funding solution’ for the programme.

Colin and Wendy Parry, Warrington South MP David Mowat and Labour MP Tessa Jowell, who originally asked during Prime Minister’s Questions if David Cameron would meet representatives from the charity, met to discuss the programme.

Speaking after the meeting, David Mowat said: “While the Budget announcement was welcome, we do need to get the Survivors for Peace programme on a more secure financial footing so that we don’t end up with the same situation next year.

“I’m pleased that the Government appreciates the value of this programme and is working to find a permanent solution.”

Colin Parry added the couple were grateful for everyone’s help.

He said: "The meeting lasted thirty minutes and we agreed a range of actions that will secure our vital work in support of victims and survivors.

"Wendy and I are extremely grateful to David for helping facilitate this meeting and his active support of the foundation."

Nick Bent, Labour parliamentary candidate for Warrington South, added: "I’m delighted with this progress and this cross-party support and whoever is in power we must make sure Government backs the Parrys and this vital project."
