FIRE crews were called after flames spread from an airing cupboard to the roof of a house in Birchwood.

The alarm was raised today, Monday, at 5.50am at the house on Rockingham Close, Birchwood.

Crews isolated the gas and electric and used breathing apparatus to tackle the flames in the detached house before a large fan was used to clear the smoke.

It is not thought anyone was injured.
