THE gloves were on for a charity boxing day which raised more than £500 for the Mayor’s charity.

John Murphy, from Marsh House Gym, held the night at Alford Hall on Manchester Road earlier this month.

Clr Tony Higgins (Lab - Fairfield and Howlwy) said: "I attended the fight night and the atmosphere was electric and for Marsh House gym to raise this money was appreciated and valued.”
