A WOMAN, who was more than three times over the drink drive limit, has escaped a jail term.
Kiran Doel, of Loushers Lane, was arrested after a witness at the Waterside pub called the police after seeing her driving off in her car - despite consuming copious amounts of alcohol.
The court heard how the 28-year-old, who has no previous convictions, was found slumped over the wheel of her car by police on November 18 on Woolacombe close at 11.20pm.
A breathyser test revealed that there was 127 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
Doel has intended to meet a friend but they had failed to turn up.
Her defence labelled her actions as a ‘dreadful mistake’ and said she was remorseful for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
She had recently lost her job as a paralegal and had been caring for a sick relative who was dying from cancer.
Doel was given a 12 week sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.
She was also handed a 12 month supervision order and has to pay £620 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
