A WOMAN, who was more than three times over the drink drive limit, has escaped a jail term.

Kiran Doel, of Loushers Lane, was arrested after a witness at the Waterside pub called the police after seeing her driving off in her car - despite consuming copious amounts of alcohol.

The court heard how the 28-year-old, who has no previous convictions, was found slumped over the wheel of her car by police on November 18 on Woolacombe close at 11.20pm.

A breathyser test revealed that there was 127 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Doel has intended to meet a friend but they had failed to turn up.

Her defence labelled her actions as a ‘dreadful mistake’ and said she was remorseful for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.

She had recently lost her job as a paralegal and had been caring for a sick relative who was dying from cancer.

Doel was given a 12 week sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.

She was also handed a 12 month supervision order and has to pay £620 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

I truly think the probationary reports that go to the judge for sentencing should be checked out, and those using cancer or any other disease that causes suffering as an excuse thats false should be given an extra 6 months.

Seems its the new thing with the probation service so many people ill and dying (related to criminals).
