Rower celebrates after crossing the Atlantic

Warrington Guardian: Rower celebrates after crossing the Atlantic Rower celebrates after crossing the Atlantic

AFTER taking on storms and searing heat, a former Great Sankey High School pupil has crossed the Atlantic.

Matt Inglesby, of Winwick Park, was part of a seven-strong crew rowing the 3,000 mile challenge completing it in 32 days, 22 hours, 31 minutes and 25 seconds.

The happy team arrived in Barbados on Saturday despite a number of them having never been in a rowing boat before.

Matt, aged 21, took on the marathon task to raise cash for his friend Kerry Greenfield, from Widnes, in the hope of helping her walk again after she was born with spina bifida occulta with tethered cord syndrome.

Well done on your achievement, but why do the WG insist on referencing former schools.

It's not relevant to the story, but on the off chance it is, you should state why.

Some people like to moan about anything and everything.
Just be happy for the guy and don't worry about things.

The school is probably mentioned to give readers something to relate to and to add a bit of background to the story.

If we were to be really picky we could argue that we didn't need to know about the weather conditions or the fact that the team were happy.
Maybe the story should just be 'Person crosses water. The end', but that wouldn't be a very interesting read!

Well done Matt, what a fantastic accomplishment!
