IT was billed as the Whittle Muddy Mile but no amount of mud was going to stand in the way of six-year-old Holly McHugh from completing another mile for charity.

With the support of the under nines players from the Whittle Hall Junior Football Club and the Earlstown Athletic Celtic, the Chapelford Primary School pupil powered through as part of her gruelling charity mission.

Following the final whistle and after a closely fought out match, the footballers dug deep to find the energy to support Holly during her one-mile run.

Holly’s mum Sue said: “It’s just amazing how many more people have joined in to help Holly. It was absolutely brilliant but it did get pretty messy.”

The determined youngster has now run past the half way point and is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon as she completes her own marathon, one mile at a time.

Manager and coach of Whittle Hall Junior Football Club, Dave Smith, said he was pleased the team were able to support Holly and work together as a team.

Holly will finish the final stretch of the mammoth run alongside her mum at this year’s London Marathon on Sunday, April 13.

Sue, who has already completed two London marathons in the past for the charity, added: “She’s on the downward slope and it’s going really well. I couldn’t be prouder. She has only just turned six and, when we first decided to do it, we weren’t sure if she would be able to stick at it.

“But she has and she has got so much out of it too. She’s been enjoying it.”

Holly has now completed her fifteenth one mile run, having already stepped up to the challenge of keeping up with her mum, her nine-year-old brother Eddie, her friend Mia Penny and friends Sam and Charlie Jones.

She was also joined by Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman who Holly piped to the post at the finish line.

The mother and daughter duo are raising money for Children with Cancer UK with the total amount already reaching £3,500.

“We want to raise so much more,” said Sue. “Our aim is to raise £5,000.”
