Helping Warrington mums get back to work
4:00pm Friday 21st March 2014 in News
YOU have had most of the year at home enjoying the first few months of your babies’ life and then it suddenly hits you have to go back to work soon.
That is the situation facing many women on maternity leave but one Great Sankey parent is hoping to help mums swap ideas and provide advice for those with the back-to-work blues.
Gemma Cox said she has been shocked by the response her Mummy’s Mission Facebook and Twitter pages have received in less than two weeks, including celebrity follower Kerry Katona, and is now looking for help setting up a website to spread the message further.
Gemma, who has been married to husband Paul for three years, said: “I’m due to go back to work after having my daughter Abbie nine-and-a-half months ago but like lots of mums I got to the point where I didn’t want to leave my child behind and go back.
“I have been racking my brains thinking of something I could do that would provide an income and could work around looking after my daughter.
“Then I saw the news story about a man complaining about holiday prices on Facebook and the response it got and I thought I would give it a go and ask for people who are in the same position as me to share their ideas.”
The 27-year-old information officer said she has since been receiving messages daily from women who have set up their own business and people with tips on how to boost the household’s income including becoming a mystery shopper.
The response has lead to Gemma now hoping to set up a website providing a ‘one-stop shop’ for mums in a similar position with advice and potential employers advertising.
She added: “I didn’t think it would be as popular as it has been and now it’s turned on it’s head and I’ve been giving advice to other mums.
“Some say being self-employed is really hard work but I’m a positive person and have been telling mums their business could be as easy or time-consuming as they want depending on their circumstances and what they want from it.”
