AN adoption recruitment campaign has been launched in the town as part of the first ever north west adoption week.

The core message of Adopt North West, ‘You could adopt’, focusses on busting the myths around adoption.

It will also highlight it is possible to adopt regardless of whether residents are single, over 50, already have biological children, are gay, are 21 and over, are in full time employment, from any religion or are not a homeowner.

Clr Hitesh Patel, executive board member at Warrington Borough Council, said: “We want people from all walks of life to know that adoption is an option for them, whatever their circumstance might be.

“It might be that someone thinks they are too young or too old so we want this campaign to bust some of these myths around adoption and most importantly we want people to get in touch with us if they are interested.”

Adopt North West has been created to help find forever families for the 623 children currently awaiting adoption in the region, and hopes to get adults thinking about adopting a child or children.

The campaign has won the support of Edward Timpson MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, who has two adopted younger brothers and whose parents have fostered nearly 90 children over the past 30 years.
