WARRINGTON Guardian’s website has been shortlisted for a prestigious media award.

The Prolific North awards recognise the very best of the regional media.

Out of more than 200 entries from across the industry, the Guardian was selected due to its large increase in visitors to its website as well as providing interesting content in an easy-to-navigate format.

It will be competing against its sister title, the Leigh Journal, as well as Manchester Evening News, Sportbox Media and TheBusinessDesk.com.

The award ceremony will take place at Lancashire County Cricket ground on May 1.

God help the rest of them. I take it the award does not cover spelling and punctuation. None of the articles seem to be proof read, mistakes can happen, yes, but surely it is better to read through what you have written and correct it. Too many people rely on spell checkers, and if they dont get a red line, think everything is ok. There is a journalist on this website who also appears on the Widnes World site, whose articles are forever full of errors. Is there no-one checking things before they are published WG?

The award wont be for good knowledge about the geography of the town that's for sure, Spelling and punctuation neither, But what do you want for £1 per copy.

All I can say is the other sites that were in the running must be really bad if this site is to be considered for an award
