AN accident involving six cars is causing long delays on the Thelwall Viaduct.
The hard shoulder, being used as a lane during roadworks, was closed following the accident on the northbound carriageway between Lymm and Woolston at 7.37am today, Wednesday.
No one was injured although some vehicles had to be recovered, according to the Highways Agency.
It called the incident a 'typical motorway shunt'.
The lane was opened again at 9am.
Congestion was going back to Lymm at junction 20.
The Highways Agency says queues are made worse by the roadworks in the area.
Congestion has built up in Warrington, with tailbacks from the Knutsford Road bridge in Grappenhall to the motorway reported.
