WARRINGTON’S dirtiest eateries have been revealed with one restaurant in town getting the worst rating possible..

The stomach churning list outlines the takeaways, sandwich shops, restaurants, cafes and canteens that have been told they need to improve their cleanliness and hygiene.

BaaMoo on Grappenhall Road was handed an urgent improvement necessary notice after inspectors visited the restaurant on January 29.

The bar and grill is the only restaurant in Warrington to receive a zero rating in the food hygiene rating scheme.

A spokesman for BaaMoo said the rating was linked to issues from before they owned the premises and staff are working hard to improve the rating.

A handful of eateries were also handed a rating of one as major improvements are required.

Family Kebab, on Martin Avenue, was slammed for leaving mouse droppings in the rear storage shed and for using unclean cloths to clean knives, the Warrington Guardian has learned.

Lalkilla restaurant, on Orford Lane, allowed leaking water to drip on to food and staff were found to have not cleaned surfaces and sinks properly while Ali’s Fast Food, on Academy Way, was urged to clean up its act after food cooked at home was used in takeaways.

Inspectors previously awarded East Orient, on Horsemarket Street, a grading of one after staff left food uncovered and shelving and flooring needed cleaning.

The hygiene inspections are carried out by council officers who check how hygienically the food is handled and stored.

The results are then published on the Food standards agency website to rate how the establishment was found on the date of inspection.

There are six ratings available to inspectors to dish out - zero for businesses in need of urgent improvement and a five for businesses ranked as very good.

The food hygiene rating is not a guide to food quality.

While there are restaurants needing urgent work, most eateries scored well in the hygiene ratings with the majority getting four or five stars for their cleanliness.
