GENEROUS students taking part in the Warrington Youth Club’s National Citizen Service project baked up a storm to raise money for the John Holt Cancer Support Foundation.

The group of 11 put Mary Berry to shame after selling out of cakes within hours of opening the stall.

The teenagers from Priestley College and the Warrington Collegiate have also organised a series of fundraising events including a sponsored silence, which raised more than £500.

Hannah Smith, from Penketh, said: “Everyone has been touched in one way or another by someone who has had cancer so we just wanted to raise as much money as we can for the foundation.”

The group have also planned a sponsored stay up, a raffle and bag-packing at Sainsbury’s.
