THE poster girls for the St Rocco’s Hospice Starlight Walk are urging others to join them at this year’s event.

Vanessa Donnelly and Emma Mayo will be joining up with more than 1,000 women from across the town on Friday, June 20 for the midnight walk at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub.

Vanessa said: “I walked the Starlight Walk for the first time in 2013. I walked for my beloved granddad Eric Burns who had prostate cancer and spent his last few days and hours at the hospice.

“He was an inspirational man and St Rocco’s were fantastic with him. Everyone at St Rocco’s made us all feel so welcome - especially when all the family stayed by his bedside overnight.

“I think St Rocco’s is a wonderful charity and I will always do what I can to support the hospice. We will be walking again this year and hope to bring along a group of friends.”

Emma added: ”One of the main reasons for taking part was to support a local charity that does a lot of good work in the local area.

“Both of my daughters attend Winwick Primary School and they have both taken part in the reindeer run for the last two years which has raised substantial money for St Roccos, so it is a charity that we know a lot about.

“Both my dad and my father-in-law who have both now passed away have battled against various forms of cancer and both of them received substantial support in the local area.”
