WORK has started restoring the town centre pub the White Hart to its old self.
Stars Pubs and Bars, which is part of Heineken, is investing £178,0000 in a full refurbishment of the Sankey Street pub, transforming the venue to offer food, cask ales and coffees.
Neil Sparkes, a local entrepreneur, who has four pubs in the town and has leased the pub, is also putting more than £45,000 towards the project.
Mr Sparkes said: “It has been run under temporary management for many years during which it has become tired and rundown.
"All it lacked was investment and to offer the people of Warrington what they want from a town centre pub - good food, good beer and great tea and coffee throughout the day and evening. With four pubs in the town, I know what will work."
The White Hart will be closed for five weeks and as a result of the refurbishment 20 jobs will be created when the pub opens in mid-April.
