A SCHOOL in Orford has been told it needs to rapidly improve by Ofsted inspectors.
Beamont Community Primary School was graded as ‘requires improvement’ after inspectors visit the school on January 29 to 30.
The school on O'Leary Street was criticised for the quality of teaching, which is ‘not yet consistently good enough to enable all pupils to make good progress’.
School work was noted as not challenging enough for the most able pupils with some leaving the school with below average standards in reading, writing and maths.
Attendance levels need to improve and handwriting and spelling skills are not taught consistently well across the school.
Despite a number of damning criticisms, school leaders and governors were told they have an accurate view of the school’s strengths and weaknesses.
The quality of teaching is also improving due to the senior leaders’ clear focus on improvement, said inspectors.
