A ST ROCCO’S Hospice volunteer is urging others to walk to remember to help raise money for the charity.

Karen Lawton will be taking part in the midnight Starlight Walk in memory of her dad who spent time at the hospice before his death in 1997.

Now she volunteers as a receptionist at the hospice as well as taking part in the women only walk.

She said: “Staff at St Rocco’s were amazing with my dad and I really wanted to give something back for all they did.”

In January 2012 Karen’s mum was also diagnosed with cancer. It was then that Karen, determined to do something for St Rocco’s, first signed up for the Starlight Walk.

And when she called in to drop off her sponsorship money Karen was so impressed she signed up to help out herself.

“Last year I was lucky enough to be taken on as a volunteer receptionist which I absolutely love,” added Karen. “I’m so looking forward to the Starlight Walk this year and will be taking part with a team of friends - one of whom I haven’t seen since school, over 40 years ago.”

The walk this year takes place on Friday, June 20 from the Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub.
