WORK to resurface sections of Orford’s roads have begun Council workers are transforming Withers Avenue from Hallfields Road to Orford Road, and Smith Drive from Withers Avenue to Roscoe Avenue.

The work will last about four weeks and will take place in phases.

Resurfacing of the rest of Withers Avenue will start next Monday, March 10, for two weeks, Monday to Friday between 9am to 4pm.

The road will be closed from the roundabout to Orford Road. Smith Drive and the section of Withers Avenue from the roundabout to Hallfields Road will be open.

Stapleton Avenue and Halsall Avenue will be closed at their junctions with Withers Avenue.

A diversion will be in place and access to premises affected by the closures will be under control of the contractor.

Services 20, 21 and 21X will be diverted via Hallfields Road, and Orford Green (and Hilden Place for the 20 service) and will not serve Smith Drive.

Details will be posted on bus stops and on the Network Warrington website.

A spokesman for the council said: “Cones, barriers and signs are there to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.

“The council is working with the contractor to keep delays to a minimum.”
