THE husband of Donna Davies, who was knocked down and killed on Lovely Lane, has vowed to fight for justice after his wife’s killer escaped a jail term.

Paul Davies, of Whitecross Road, says his life has been turned into a never-ending nightmare after the mum of four was ploughed down while walking home from Morris dancing with the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.

The father of four was left in a state of shock and disbelief after Balbinder Dhillon, of Montana Close, Great Sankey, was given a two year sentence, which was suspended for two years, at Warrington Crown Court on Friday.

Paul said: “It’s a miscarriage of justice and a travesty. Not so long ago, when they had the London riots, somebody put a comment on Facebook and they got sent down for four years.

“But then somebody can take a life and get a suspended sentence. Where’s the logic?

“I thought he would get at least four years. I thought I was going to get closure of sorts on Friday but I never expected this.

“A lot of people are in a lot of shock and are angry with the justice system.”

The 44-year-old said he started to feel ‘physically sick’ when Donna failed to return home that evening and knew something had happened.

“If Donna hadn’t pushed my little girl out of the way then I would have been burying my own child. No parent should have to do that but Donna’s did.”

Since the 42-year-old’s death on April 25, Paul has struggled to come terms with the loss of his wife and turned to drink to cope.

His two youngest children have since been taken into care and he is only permitted to see them for an hour and a half every month at a contact centre.

“I have gone from being a father 24/7 and a husband to virtually nothing. I’m going to have to move out of my house because of bedroom tax,” he added. “He’s all right – he went home to his children. I can’t even do that.”

Paul, who was married to Donna for 22 years, also spoke out about his heartbreak that she will never meet her first grandchild.

“My son told me that his girlfriend was expecting on April 27 - Donna died on April 25. She would have been a doting grandmother just like she was as a mother.

“I know they say when one life goes another one is created but it’s just so difficult,” he said.

Paul is determined to get justice for Donna, her children and her family after they have been left devastated by what happened.

He is due to meet with officers at the CPS to discuss appealing the sentence in the coming weeks.

“It’s like I’m on a roundabout and I’m trying to get off but everything just keeps on spiralling out of control,” said Paul.

“It’s like an uphill battle but I don’t care how long it takes. I am ready to fight because I want justice for Donna.”
