SITTING in the Colombian jungle hearing the story of a young war refugee helped inspire Warrington Christian Aid intern Joey Knock in supporting this year's cause for FairTrade fortnight.

Mr Knock, 26, will be visiting the Padgate campus of Chester University dressed as a banana and towing a specially built smoothie bike at 1pm on Wednesday as part of the campaign to end the unfair trade of bananas in Britain.

The campaign is fronted by Colombian banana farmer Foncho, whose life has been changed by becoming a FairTrade farmer.

There were strong similarities between Foncho's story and people he met while in Colombia for two weeks in September, Mr Knock said. He visited a Christian Aid co-run programme, helping rehome refugees from Colombia's civil war.
