POLICE say a man killed on Manchester Road on Saturday morning was struck by a HGV while in the carriageway.

They have launched a fresh appeal for information from the public this afternoon, Monday, following the death of Trevor Allen at 8.15am.

Police were called to the A57 Manchester Road close to junction 21 of the M6 to reports that a man was deceased in the road.

They say officers arrived at the scene and the 56-year-old from Manchester was pronounced dead by paramedics.

A spokesman said: "Mr Allen, who had been driving a red Citroen Berlingo along the road at the time of the incident, died as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a HGV in the carriageway.

"Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and has witnessed what happened or was in the area prior to the incident and has seen anything significant to come forward."

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 221 of February 15.

Information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

  •  Mark Slater, aged 46, of Hillside Avenue in Oldham, appeared at Runcorn Magistrates′ Court this morning, charged with murder.

He will next appear at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday.
