The family of a granddad allegedly murdered in Rixton said his ‘smile made the room light up’.

Trevor Keith Allen, aged 56, from Swinton, was found dead by police on Manchester Road at 8.15am on Saturday.

In a tribute issued through Cheshire Police, his family said: “Trevor was an amazing, caring dad, granddad, brother, uncle, son and friend to many.

“His smile and charm made the room light up when he walked in.

“Loved by all who knew him, he is irreplaceable and will be very sadly missed."

Police launched a ‘major investigation’ following the incident at the weekend.

Mark Slater, aged 46, from Hillside Avenue, Oldham, appeared at Halton Magistrates Court this morning via video link and entered no plea.

He was arrested on Saturday and has been charged with murder.

Slater is due to next appear at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday.
