HEALTH experts are asking residents to choose the ‘most appropriate service’ if they need medical assistance.

Patients can choose from GP surgeries, pharmacies and NHS 111 and advice is picking the service that best meets their needs means patients can be treated quicker.

Dr Kieran Murphy, medical director from NHS England, Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral, said: “Accident and Emergency departments seem to be the default place for a lot of people when they need medical help, however, in most cases there are other, more appropriate ways to access the NHS.

“If people are unsure which service they need, by simply phoning 111 they will be directed to the most appropriate place.”
