A RUN by police officers to remember Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, murdered by Dale Cregan, took place in Warrington on Sunday.

The family of Greater Manchester Police officer Nicola also attended for the run.

The unarmed women were slain by Cregan in a gun and grenade attack after attending a 999 call in Manchester in 2012.

More than 100 Cheshire Police officers are taking part in Run To Remember, a challenge asking participants to run 250 miles by April 4.

Money raised is going to the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.

As part of the event officers from forces in Merseyside, Lancashire and North Wales joined Cheshire colleagues to trim off some of the total distance in Warrington.

PC Julia West, of Warrington Central NPU, said: “This is such an amazing cause to support and be part of.

“Everyone within the police family felt a deep sense of loss when PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone were killed on duty in 2012.

“This challenge has brought us all together to remember Nicola and all of our fallen colleagues.”
