PARENTS at St Gregory's High School have been told the school has failed and has been put in special measures following a disastrous Ofsted report.

A letter was sent home last night and the full report is due out later today, Wednesday, the Warrington Guardian understands.

Inspectors visited the Cromwell Avenue school over two days in December three years since the last inspection when it was rated outstanding.

Councillor Hitesh Patel (Great Sankey South - LAB) said: “We are very concerned about how a school that was outstanding a few years ago can deteriorate so quickly.

“I await the publication of the full report by Ofsted. As soon as that happens, a meeting is needed with the school to find out exactly what happened.”

Science was especially criticised as were other aspects of the school which showed 'significant shortcomings'.

The letter said: "The school accepts the report in full.

"This is a real disappointment for the school community."

Maths, English, drama and music was praised. As was new executive head teacher, David Lewis.

Among a detailed action plan released will be extra support for PE and design technology and extra lessons of science before school on Thursdays and Fridays are planned for GCSE students.

A new bullying and child protection policy will be put in place and a full financial audit will be carried out.

A meeting has been arranged for worried parents next Thursday, February 13.
