THE formal response to the proposed HS2 route through Warrington has been handed in by Warrington Borough Council.
Bosses have confirmed the formal response, submitted this week, will express ‘very serious concerns about the potential economic and environmental impacts’ of the route proposed for the 200-mph train.
As reported previously in the Warrington Guardian, Clr Terry O’Neill, council leader, says the route would have ‘all of the pain and none of the gain’.
They have highlighted the loss of Taylor Business Park in Risley, the environmental impact on Lymm, Agden, Broomedge, Croft, Culcheth and Rixton with Glazebrook, including Hollins Green and the missed chance to do up Warrington Bank Quay station.
A council spokesman said: “It’s disappointing that Warrington is effectively bypassed by the proposed HS2 route.
“It’s also inappropriate that a town as important to the region’s economy as Warrington is only being offered the prospect of a limited hourly service running between London and Preston.”
