ARMED men threatened staff with a screwdriver and stole money from a Co-op store in Burtonwood on Monday night.

Officers say the raid happened at 7.35pm when two men entered shop on Mercer Road, approaching the till and threatening staff with a screwdriver.

They demanded the contents of the till and fled the scene with a quantity of cash, police say.

During the robbery a third man was keeping guard outside the entrance to the shop.

The pair got into a white Nissan Qashqai parked on Acton Road and drove off along Clay Lane towards the motorway.

The first offender is described as white, around 5′ 5" tall, of slim build and spoke with a St Helens accent.

He was wearing a black scarf, which was covering his face, leather gloves, a khaki waxed jacket and a white hooded top.

The second offender is described as white, around 5′ 6" to 5′ 7" tall, of medium build, aged 20-30-years-old and was wearing a blue waxed jacket and black trousers.

There is no description of the third offender.
