THE premiere of a film capturing the town’s Rugby League World Cup adventure is set to take place at Pyramid .

Students and staff at the University of Chester’s Padgate campus initiated, filmed and edited Warrington’s World Cup, using The Hot Room – the media department’s own production company.

The film features the preparations for the global competition and the lasting impact it has had on the town.

Highlights include Latchford school children’s rendition of the Haka to welcome the Samoan team, the trophy tour around the town and highlights from two of the most outstanding games of the tournament.

Alongside the screening, an exclusive extras feature will be shown after the main film where guests will be invited to comment and share their stories about the role Warrington played in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Robert Mumford, a third-year television production with radio production student, worked as production assistant on the project. He said: “I went out and about filming a lot of the content for the film in the months leading up to the Rugby League World Cup, and it’s really nice to see it finally all coming together.

“It was great to see the variety of performances, from talented, dedicated individuals taking pride in their town. It was also fantastic to experience filming and using the equipment in different locations which will help me in my future career.”

Culture Warrington, a charitable trust delivering arts, heritage and events across Warrington, helped to fund the student-led project.

Jan Souness, managing director at Culture Warrington and chairman of the Warrington Rugby League World Cup Consortia, added: “We wanted to capture Warrington’s World Cup year – the preparations, build up and excitement in the town leading to our opening and quarter-final game.

“From cultural organisations to businesses and faith sector organisations, fans, university staff, students and members of the council, everyone has supported the games coming to Warrington.”
