A MAN has been jailed for 18 weeks after attacking four Cheshire Police officers called to an incident at his home in Howley.

Court officials say Kyle Ponomarev, aged 27, pleaded guilty to four counts of assault at Halton Magistrates Court today, Friday.

The officers from Warrington Central NPU, which covers Howley, Fairfield, Orford, Longford, Poplars and Hulme, suffered minor injuries after Ponomarev became aggressive.

Police say they had been called to reports of concern for safety of another person at the address on Wednesday.

The situation 'escalated', with Ponomarev lashing out as officers tried to restrain him.

Their injuries were treated and all four are expected back on duty.

The incident breached an 18 week suspended prison sentence, passed in November last year, when Ponomarev was convicted of using threatening words or behaviour.

On Friday, Magistrates enforced the suspended sentence, meaning the defendant was jailed for 18 weeks.

He was also sentenced to two weeks in prison on each assault charge, to run concurrently, resulting in a total jail term of 18 weeks.
