PLANS to close Culcheth Sixth Form have been opposed by Culcheth and Glazebury councillors.

Parish councillor Matt Smith and Clr Chris Vobe (Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft - LAB) have submitted their objections to Warrington Borough Council’s consultation process and are urging the chief executive Steven Broomhead to consider the information ‘carefully’.

Clr Vobe said: “The loss of Sixth Form provision in our village can only be bad for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft.

“The school say that have faced fierce competition from other providers like Priestley College, but we must explore why students are choosing to take a 40-minute journey involving two buses, rather than attend our local sixth form college.”

Clr Vobe has also not ruled out taking the issue to all-party scrutiny committee if the sixth form is recommended for closure.

Clr Smith also questioned why the issue had not been flagged up earlier ‘which would have stopped the problems in their tracks’.
