THE death of Alan ‘Bundy’ Clare who fell from a balcony in Spain has been ruled as an accident.

Dr Nicholas Rheinberg delivered the verdict at Warrington Coroner’s Court on Friday.

He said: “At approximately 2.45am on September 6 last year, the lifeless body of Alan Stephen Clare was found at the hotel Los Dalmatas in Benidorm.

“An investigation has revealed he sustained injuries consistent with a fall from a height.

“The injuries have proved fatal.”

As revealed in the Warrington Guardian, Mr Clare, aged 34, of Cabul Close, Orford, had been on a stag do when he fell from the 14th floor of the hotel.

Friends had described him laughing and joking on the day he died, having a ‘brilliant day’.

The town rallied round to raise more than £22,000 in a matter of days for repatriation of the body.

A minute’s applause was heard at the Halliwell Jones Stadium before Warrington Wolves clash with Leeds Rhinos on September 14 last year.

The former Cardinal Newman High School pupil’s body was returned four days later.

Fundraising was headed by amateur rugby league club Bank Quay Bulls, where Mr Clare played for 15 years.

Seven defibrillators, costing around £6,000, have been bought with money raised in his memory, and donated to Bank Quay Bulls, and six other amateur clubs in the town.

Parents Alan Clare and Carol Andrew made the donation on behalf of their son at Bank Quay Social Club in November last year.

A van driver for AAH Pharmaceuticals on Woburn Road, Mr Clare was a popular man in Warrington.
