High Speed 2 route offers nothing for Warrington - MP

Warrington Guardian: Helen Jones MP Helen Jones MP

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has slammed the current route for the HS2 as it ‘offers nothing to Warrington’.

Mrs Jones has called on the Government to come clean about the real cost of the HS2 spur, which is planned to pass through Warrington.

The MP recently questioned the Government about the cost of the Winterbottom to Bamfurlong section of the line but answered by only giving the construction costs of £360m.

She added: “Everyone knows that the true costs of the line will be far more than that.

“Unless the Government is prepared to admit that the costs will include compensation for property owners, the loss of jobs, for example at the Taylor Business Park, loss of business rates and damage to local businesses, then any estimate they make of the supposed benefits of the line are fatally flawed.”

Helen will find fault with anything non-Labour. She'll do it again in a week or two to keep herself in the public eye.

We have been saying this since the idea was first put forward, She makes a lot of noise for someone who couldn't be bothered to vote against the bedroom tax.

Stop HS2 Now says...

From day 1 Helen Jones has stayed loyal to the party line and supported HS2 despite the damage it will do to the country and her constituency in particular. In case she forgets, she is supposed to represent the area, not blindly follow what her party tells her.
Other than a few mutterings from her, it seems obvious that she is willing to stand by and watch 500 people lose their jobs in Culcheth whilst watching people lose their homes and the environment being destroyed.
Helen needs to realise that HS2 is a very contentious project and that her stance on this will determine voting intentions. No Votes For You With HS2!

Actually HS2 is a Labour project that the coalition has taken over. It offers nothing to Warrington and never has so the real mystery is why local MPs ever supported the **** thing in the first place.
