FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue a woman caught in a flat fire in Birchwood on Saturday morning.

Three crews were called to the woman’s home on Admirals Road, Oakwood, at 6.30am and found her suffering from smoke inhalation.

She was taken to hospital by paramedics to be checked over.

A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed the fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

He added: "A 39-year-old woman from Warrington was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

“She was remanded into custody to appear before Halton Magistrates Court on January 13.”
