ORGANISERS at Race For Life have been forced to cancel the charity event in Warrington.

The annual race, which raises money to support life-saving research into breast cancer and help save lives, was cancelled to raise more money while reducing costs.

Annette Quarry, Cancer Research UK national event manager, said it was a ‘difficult decision’ but hopes people will continue to support the charity.

She added: “Although 1,202 women took part at our event in Warrington in July last year, this compared with 1,574 entries the previous year at Arley Hall.

“Taking the costs of staging the event into consideration, and the large number of events we hold nearby in Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we have had to take the difficult decision not to run it again in 2014.”

Race for Life was held at Warrington’s Victoria Park for the first time in 2013.

Prior to this, the event was always held at Arley Hall. Nearest races to Warrington will now be Tatton Park, Haydock Race Course and Delamere Forest.
