A MAN, who assaulted his former partner and broke down her door, has escaped a prison sentence at Halton Magistrates Court.

Philip Cragg, of Ashborne Road, Great Sankey, was found guilty at an earlier hearing of two charges of assault and one charge of criminal damage.

The court heard how the victim has had to change her daily routine and feels like she constantly has to watch her back since being assaulted on December 29, 2012, and then again on January 1, 2013.

In a letter read out in court, the victim also said that the defendant had offered someone £100 to put her in hospital last year.

The 31-year-old was handed a 12 month supervision order and a four week curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

The defendant was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation and a £60 victim surcharge as well as £620 in prosecution costs.

A restraining order was also imposed, which prohibits Cragg from contacting the victim for 12 months.
