RIVERSIDE Retail Park in Warrington has reopened after it was shut to traffic ahead of a possible flood.

And all of the six flood warnings put in place for the town earlier in the day have now been lifted.

With high tide due around 1.30pm, the park, sited close to the Mersey, had been closed to vehicles but was reopened at 2pm.

There has been minor flooding near to the Jellybean Playcentre and police are continuing to monitor the area.

The nearby Wharf Street was also closed but is now open to pedestrians and vehicles.

The tide levels are now falling.

Meanwhile, a pub located next to the Mersey that flooded badly during a storm on December 5 does not appear to be under serious threat today.

Andrew Mulholland, landlord at The Ferry Tavern, Station Road, said only a small amount of water has entered through the toilet area but it is being mopped up easily at this stage.

The Enviroment Agency had warned him the pub risked being flooded during high tide at 1.25pm.

He said: "The river is not going to come over the top of the banks like it did last time.

"There is water coming through but it's getting pumped back into the river again.

"There is not even an inch of water, so we are surviving."

Mr Mulholland added The Ferry Tavern would close over the weekend for carpets and furniture to be put back, with 'business as usual' from next week.
