A MAN, who was more than double the legal alcohol limit for drivers when he drove home after a night of celebrating, has seen his licence revoked.

Ryan Ormandy, of Stage Lane, Lymm, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Halton Magistrates Court in Runcorn on Friday after he defied a warning from officers.

Police were called to the Village Hotel on Centre Park on October 2 at 1am after reports of two drunken males being abusive towards customers and staff and causing a disturbance.

The court heard how Ormandy and a friend were approached by the police about their behaviour following a number of complaints.

Prosecuting, Alison Warburton said: “They were extremely drunk and they were advised to get a taxi home.”

Despite warnings from the police, Ormandy and his friend got into a Subaru car and drove off on to Centre Park Square before stopping when the police approached.

The 27-year-old was asked to take a number of breathalyser tests, which were unsuccessful.

The court heard reported that Ormandy failed to give a breathalysers because he was ‘blowing out of the side of his mouth’.

The self employed electrician was taken to a police station where he was later given a blood test.

The results showed that Ormandy had 199 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

In the UK, the alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

District judge Bridget Knight said: “You may well hang your head in shame. You are 27, you are a self employed electrician and it is the day after New Year.

“You have done this to yourself. You only have yourself to blame.”

Ormandy was handed a £250 fine and is disqualified from driving for 22 months, but was offered the chance to reduce the length of disqualification by five and a half months if he takes a dangers of drink driving course.
