POLICE have warned campaigns to tackle binge drinking in the town will continue into the New Year.

Over Christmas officers from Cheshire Police have worked alongside bars to clamp down on booze-related crime.

Drugs dogs have been used to search premises with people searched, and underage drinkers targeted.

Insp Richard Spedding said: “We have continued to work in partnership with town centre bars who have identified people under 18 who have been trying to access premises and purchase alcohol.

“Under Operation Iced, premises have seized the ID and police and Warrington Borough Council Partnership Policing have dealt with the offenders through restorative justice providing an educational input.

"The council and the police have worked with licensed premises to set up a designated driver scheme.

“ A premises will guarantee to provide free soft drinks to the designated driver of any group.

“At the moment there are over 20 premises across Warrington offering this provision and we hope to increase this number in 2014.

"Cheshire Police in Warrington hope everyone had a great time over the Christmas and New Year period."
