Seven drink drivers arrested on Christmas Eve

Warrington Guardian: Police warn drink drive clampdown will continue Police warn drink drive clampdown will continue

DRINK drivers in the town have been warned by Cheshire Police they risk being locked up if taking to the roads over Christmas.

According to officers, seven people were arrested for driving over the legal limit on Christmas Eve, and into the early hours of today, Wednesday, meaning some spent the first part of Christmas Day in a prison cell.

Some arrests were made following calls from members of the public, say police.

As a result, officers have issued a reminder to say patrols remain active in hunting for drink drivers over the holiday period, and into the New Year.

As reported in the Warrington Guardian, a campaign has been under way since the start of December.

Officers are able to stop any driver on any road in Warrington, and carry out at breath test.

Anyone driving irregularly or involved in a collision will also be checked.

To report drink driving call police on 101.

All the Police need to do is wait outside any local pub and I am sure that they would get their quota of alcoholic drivers who show not even a jot of concern for public safety. In finding only 7 the Police need to step it up when there was a lot more available to catch. I would probably have used the Crime stoppers freephone number, (0800 555 111), as it has the added bonus of being anonymous.

I dont know how they caught 7, you just don't see any traffic police now. If you did then I wouldn't see all the drivers texting and on mobiles behind the wheel that I see every single day. If any cops need to hand out a few tickets to get their quota I could suggest a couple of roads that are easy picking. Try Golborne Road, Winwick road and Kingsway for starters.

Still not got my head around your argument sickandtired2. People drink..it affects their ability to drive and can lead to serious injury and death. If they drink too much, then often become ill tempered and undertake criminal or anti-social behaviour. If they're lucky they wake up with a sore head and traffic cone, if things are more serious the wake up with a broken life. People smoke cannabis...it also affects their ability to drive. It's not as easy to prove by the roadside and we know the police like things to be easy. Smoking canabis can lead to lethargy, big time munchie scoffing and fits of the giggles or for some, paranoia and psychosis leading to voices in their heads leading them to drown strangers by the canal side or remove soldiers heads with meat cleavers on national television. SAC would like to ban alcohol. I don't agree but respect his informed position. Do you want to ban alcohol or are you just offended that your drug of choice hasn't been adopted by the community in the same way for generations?

Perhaps the stealth tactic you suggested is their main reason for catching the said 7, as they didn't see them either, until they were stopped and breathalysed that is.

As for texting and making phone calls whilst driving I would add Sankey Way, Padgate Lane and the full length of Manchester Road.

I think its down to the shortage of police officers that they only caught seven drink drivers, That and flooding the town centre with uniformed officers leaves everywhere outside town a police free zone. Bring back licencing hours and proper policemen instead of allowing these drinking establishments to make a fortune at the taxpayers expense. These plastic policemen should only be used for training to join the police force.
