DRINK drivers in the town have been warned by Cheshire Police they risk being locked up if taking to the roads over Christmas.

According to officers, seven people were arrested for driving over the legal limit on Christmas Eve, and into the early hours of today, Wednesday, meaning some spent the first part of Christmas Day in a prison cell.

Some arrests were made following calls from members of the public, say police.

As a result, officers have issued a reminder to say patrols remain active in hunting for drink drivers over the holiday period, and into the New Year.

As reported in the Warrington Guardian, a campaign has been under way since the start of December.

Officers are able to stop any driver on any road in Warrington, and carry out at breath test.

Anyone driving irregularly or involved in a collision will also be checked.
