CHRISTMAS cheer is not in short supply in the town after it was named one of the most festive town’s in the UK.
Royal Mail has announced that the Warrington is among the four top places for sending Christmas cards.
Stephen Agar, managing director of consumer and network access at Royal Mail, said: “Our findings show the season of goodwill is in full swing in the north west with people across the region eager to send their festive greetings with traditional Christmas cards.
“We’re thrilled to name the region the most festive in the UK.”
Warrington had one of the largest percentage increases in letters and cards in December when compared to November. The increase saw 1,343 per cent of festive mail being sent - compared to the national average of 383 per cent.
Sharon Little, from the UK Greeting Cards Association, added: “It’s great to hear that people in Warrington are so full of the Christmas spirit.”
The impressive festive spirit that Warrington has displayed is fitting as 2013 marks the 170th anniversary of the first Christmas card ever sent.
Only 1,000 were produced at the time, a tiny fraction of the colossal number of cards that have passed through Warrington Mail Centre this year.
