THE family of a man who suffered a heart attack earlier this year returned this month to Warrington Hospital to ‘give something back’.

Pete Dunbabin, aged 64, spent three days on the coronary care unit in February while doctors decided what treatment was best.

Son Dan, aged 37, hoped to raise £250 for the department running the English Half Marathon in Warrington but was delighted when he actually collected more than £900.

The cash has been split between the ward and the British Heart Foundation.

Vehicle technician Dan added: “They looked after him really well so we really wanted to do something to say thank you.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen next or how severe the heart attack had been when he was on that ward so it’s a time that particularly sticks in our minds.

“There’s a board outside with pictures of people who have fundraised for them so I was determined to get on that board too but I was blown away by how generous people were with their donations.”

Pete went on to Broadgreen Hospital to have a blood clot removed from his heart and is now fit and well.

Cash for the cause was also raised by Bernie, Pete’s wife, who held a bucket collection at the Spar on Chester Road where she works as well as donations from family and friends.

Alison Williams, ward manager of the coronary care unit, said: “We are really touched by this donation.

“It was very thoughtful of the family to want to give something back to the unit.

“We are really pleased with Pete’s recovery and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
