A 55-YEAR-OLD man who threatened police with a walking stick has been told to pay compensation.

Halton Magistrates Court heard on Thursday how Jonathan Buckley also twisted the finger of an officer and refused to let go during the domestic incident on November 14.

Police had been called to his home on St Benedict’s Close, Orford, following reports of anti-social behaviour.

Alison Warburton, prosecuting, said officers arrived to find Buckley standing outside.

He became abusive and aggressive, swearing at police and ‘waving his walking stick in a threatening manner’.

When PC Christopher Little tried to arrest him, he grabbed his finger and refused to let go, causing bruising.

The court heard Buckley had drank half a bottle of spirits before the incident.

He suffered a serious road accident in 1984 in which he lost a leg, and is reliant on support from social services.

Buckley, who has 21 convictions for 49 offences, pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour, and assault by beating.

Magistrates told him to pay PC Little £50 in compensation, and fined him £75 for each offence.

He will also pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
